This story is about a mysterious death. A certain Dr. Rosen is sure that he can be killed. There are important reasons for this. Once he infiltrated the secret German organization 'Schwarze Hand' in order to destroy it. The operation was successful, but the doctor is convinced that his life is in danger. After that he returns to England to his home. Four people live with him: a niece, an aged maid, a gardener and a secretary. Time passes. Everyone does his own duties. But one day Rosen is found dead near the stairs. The cause of death is determined to be a fall. But did he fall by an accident? Or did someone help him? Four tenants are under suspicion. All of them say that they weren't in the house. But none of them have an alibi.
